Group Therapy in Maastricht
Autonomy & Connection
Centrum Vaktherapie will facilitate group therapy in Maastricht from September 2025. In this form of therapy you are surrounded by others who are working on similar goals and experience similar obstacles, which can be a source of support and inspiration. Group therapy is a beautiful way to practise vulnerability, connect to others and learn new skills. The group that will start this September will be focused on autonomy and social connection.
Group objectives
- Recognizing (unconscious) patterns in attachment and relationship formation
- Explore the thoughts, emotions and behaviors deriving from these patterns
- Expanding behavioral possibilities in interactions that contribute to increasing self-direction, autonomy and connecting safely in social relationships
- Shaping the relationship with yourself and with others consciously and authentically
- Increasing assertiveness (expression of boundaries and desires)
For whom?
This group is meant for people who would like to learn to act more from their own values, norms and inner compass, or that experience a lack of authentic connection with peers or with themselves. If you’ve experienced rejection, exclusion or other difficulties in social interactions, and you’ve adopted coping and attachment styles that hinder you in self-direction, autonomy, making connections and experiencing pleasure in social interactions, you are welcome to learn and explore with us. Since we’ll be learning together in a group, there’ll be many chances to practice with group members around topics such as connecting authentically, asserting boundaries and being yourself around others.
Therapeutic method
People who choose for expressive art therapy often feel like they are not sufficiently challenged to by solely speaking about their struggles in therapy. In this group we will mostly do practical exercises (all consent based) and use these experiences to share and reflect. We will mostly use a drama therapeutic approach, which means that we express and play with elements from the inner world of participants in the therapy space. You can think of improvisational theater, inner dialogues, social constellations or recreating situations from the lives of participants in role play or scene work. Other examples include doing assignments in duo’s to explore topics such as the meaning of autonomy or communication styles in more depth. In addition, the body has a central role in this form of group therapy; through dance and movement exercises or physical play, we provide practice in making contact with your own body signals, emotions, needs and boundaries.
