The way we lead our day to day lives has a great influence on our physical and mental health. When our bodies and minds are supported and happy, they give us the energy and motivation to do the things we want to do.
In this three part Lifestyle Lecture series we are going to talk about what it is our body and mind actually need to perform like we want them to. I will offer you insight in the mechanics and practical tips to make these mechanics run more smoothly. And in true Centrum Vaktherapie style we are not going to just sit down and listen. We will have three interactive lectures that will connect biochemistry with some playfulness.
In the first part of the series we will look into changing your behavior and why this is often so difficult. When we want to start integrating new behaviors it will cost more energy than just sticking to the automatic behaviors we have been doing for years. That’s why it is very interesting to see what kind of signals and which chemicals the brain needs to allow for spending more energy.
The second part of the series will be about the food we use every day to fuel our bodies. Food is a big part of our lives. We use it for comfort, it is part of most of our social activities and it is an integral part of our different cultures. That is why it can be very difficult to make changes in what we eat every day and why a diet can become such a struggle.
I don’t want to offer you another diet you will resent and generally will make you enjoy food (and life) less. Instead I want to talk about the effects certain foods have on our bodies. My believe is that the more you know about what is happening inside, the more freedom you will have to decide for yourself what kinds of food you want to eat and when you want to eat them.
The third and last part of this lecture series we will address the subject of moving your body. I say moving because exercise is just a part of this lecture. Of course we will explore how we can introduce certain types of exercise into our lives and how you can choose the type of exercise that fits you best. But our bodies are with us all day long, not just the three or four ours we spend exercising in a week. That’s why we will also talk about what happens during a regular day and we will see if there are things we can do during those days to make not only our muscles very happy but our brains as well.
